Five Phases: How an Underground Military Base Is Built Beneath Your Feet

1. Early Excavation. 2. Excavation in Progress. 3. Structural Buildout. 4. Systems Installation. 5. Finishing & Commissioning.
Five phases. Displayed in cross-section like a medical textbook showing the stages of a disease. Except the disease is the hollowing out of the earth beneath critical infrastructure, and the patient is every person who walks above it without knowing what lives below their feet.
The cross-section is surgical in its detail. In Phase 1, the tunnel boring machine punches through bedrock, displacing millions of cubic yards of earth. Phase 2 expands the cavity to its full footprint — multiple stories deep, spanning the width of the surface facility above. Phase 3 erects the structural framework: reinforced concrete floors, blast-hardened walls, elevator shafts connecting levels. Phase 4 installs the systems — the exascale computing hardware, fiber-optic networks, environmental controls, power generation, water treatment. Phase 5 is the finishing — the facility becomes operational, populated, and connected to the broader network through transit corridors visible at the bottom of the image.
The control tower of the airport above has no idea. The pilots have no idea. The passengers have no idea. The facility beneath them processes more data, consumes more power, and houses more personnel than anything on the surface.
This is the modern D.U.M.B. in its fully realized form. Not a Cold War bunker. Not a survival shelter. A fully operational military-industrial complex running exascale AI, quantum computing, and weapons research beneath the feet of a civilian population that has been deliberately kept ignorant of its existence.
The five phases take approximately three to five years to complete. The network has been under construction for over sixty years. Do the math.
